Yes, and you can't hear the air compressor on a real loco from the equivalent distance that one views a model.

And steam locos don't come to a stop going  chug chug  chug   chug    chug      chug       chug          chug           unless they are stalling on a grade, and then usually the drivers slip and all heck breaks loose.

Just my personal observations on model sound systems. Knew the guy that developed the PFM system, and later on the PBS   and tried my darndest to convince him of that--but he was so used to hearing the model stuff by then that he had forgot what the real thing sounded like.
