You are right, great minds do think alike.

The IP camera should work very well.

Keep us informed on how well it works, might try one myself.

If you use the converter, a few capacitors across the output will help to smooth out the power on points and dirty track.

The converter I used is a cheap ($8.00) one that works really well and is very adjustable for output Voltages from 5 to 32 Volts.
