|Lionel is simple with three rails---no worries with reverse loops.
I did have a small On30 layout that was DCC. I used Bachmann's E-Z DCC. I even managed to wire a Bachmann Davenport for DCC with sound.
I'm putting the finishing touches on my first 35m2 loco with radio control (had to make some modifications to the body to get the board to fit). But, it works! I take relatively inexpensive R/C cars and gut them for the electrical components; taking care to make sure the wires go to the right place. The one I'm just finishing came with a 7.2 volt AA battery pack (way too big and heavy) and replaced it with two 3.7 LiPo batteries. If you figure what a DCC decoder costs then going R/C is way cheaper.
So, if I can do it, then anyone can.
