I had the same trouble using some commercial turnout kits with PCB board combination tie bar-throw bar, and Switch Master switch machines. 

My completely hand built turnouts use a brass tie bar to connect the points and a plastic throw bar connected to the tie bar by a 00-90 screw.  Very sturdy.  The thing is, the throw bar has to pivot in relation to the points because the points, as they move from one side to another, travel in an arc.

I like the tab solution proposed earlier in this thread, too.

I would think you could adapt a similar solution to the jig-built turnouts.
