|Dave, The visual led flashes the sequence when you trigger it manually with a button on the Tx. I doubt if you need to know voltage very often. Yes, you are likely to need to stop the train to concentrate on counting flashes. Advantage is only programming is required if you already have an led controlled by the Rx.
IR4 sends the battery voltage out every 11ms. Two consecutive values are needed. You need to get both, preferably in the correct order. So ideally it needs to see say 35ms of IR led activity as the tran passes.
