Quick question on conversion of a DC 0n30 Shay to RC.
In dismantling the Shay, there is a circuit board that feeds the motor from the wheel pickups and the front light.
If I remove this board I can get all my DT receiver, Li-Po battery and charger circuit hidden in the bunker.
Will removing this board be detrimental to the running of the loco,
or should I leave it and just connect the pickup leads to the receiver and battery?
As I remember, there are a couple of cast board "mounts" in the bunker for the stock board,
and they would need to be ground/cut off to give room for the new electronics.
Isolate the headlight wires from the board and cut them from the board,
you can use them on the new board.
Will removing this board be detrimental to the running of the loco?
By removing the stock board and installing r/c,
you will find that the stock pickup system is detrimental to great operation.
You may do what I did to all the stock boards and toss them in the circular file.
Good luck and have a great time with your new r/c Shay.
