I watched the video and that was cool and then I noticed youtube had a bunch of other videos that looked interesting, including some making the same device with a bugzapper:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHxDH8PyAzA

HF has these zappers for $3.99 and the strainer can't be more than about that a couple of buck. At 12:40 he compares it against a $270 device sold by Walthers...

Guess I'm going to HF...

I'll stick to commercial RTS greenkeeper machines for the hobby. Lack of power in fly swatters is anoying..for professional use I have 70 and 80kV machines..

Hi Martin :shades:

Don't forget your Wellington boots, if the grass is wet ! ;)

I saw a DIY something-or-other on eBay.

Was wondering about it.

Didn't say it was a WMD or anything.

The RTS-Greenkeeper comes in 25, 35, and 55kV varieties. It isn't cheap, but all tests say it's the best value for money you can get.

I'm a bit scared to buy a grass machine with over 15Kv...
That's because of swedish law, which states that electrostatic hand tools over 20Kv is considered a handgun.... And will give you at least $3000 in fines or prison.
We have a prejudice, where a man rebuilt a fly zapper to give 35Kv to kill wasps.
Somehow the police found out about it, and he got 1 year on probation and $4000 in fines....

Think that if the CE brand is there Michael and it's also registered in Sweden there's no problem.

That's one of the reasons these machines costs a bit more.

The CE brand you have to pay for.

I prefer machines from manufacturers with this brand because they forfill on certain laws and regulations..homebuild don't..
