My dad has made the switch to DCC with a Zephyr Extra we have been running trains on DCC and analog. On the 4-4-0 we had not changed the address yet but it stopped running all it does is make the idol sound. all the others work just fine. I took the it apart and checked the motor by it self it is fine actks like the decoder wont connect with the Zephyr

Thanks Nate

Have you tried resetting the decoder to default settings? Then restart the Zephyr (unplug/plug back in).

Yes tride to reset it with the zephyr and the zephyr is on a power strip that is turned off every night. Unless I'm doing something wrong wile in programing like the wrong key strokes. I do get the d n r. Did not read when I try to read the decoder.
Thanks Nate

If it won't read, you may have dirty track or a bad electrical connection. Try cleaning the track, then reset it to default settings. I'm not sure what brand it is, but most reset to default if you set CV 8 to 8. So go into programming mode, select CV 8 and then set the value to 8. Then turn of the system and turn it back on and try it out. Do you know what brand the decoder is?

I did a little research.. it seems this is a common problem with the MRC decoders used by Roundhouse. It also seems this is mainly due to the decoder being absolute garbage. Sometimes if they overheat, they never run right afterward.

You might want to look into either contacting MRC and seeing if they can help you, or do a little google research and try to find a good replacement decoder.
