Next changes:

1. New Cab.

2. New Tender ( Black kitten used the coal tender as a toy and it got chewed up a bit.

3. Funeral for Black kitten, this is a joke. I had to take the Black kitten back from the adaption place as they will not adapt out any Black Cats during the month of October. She will go back the first of November if I don't find her a home before then. The kitten is really sweet and very loving. I raised her along with 5 brothers and sisters from when they were about three weeks old. I had to feed them with an eye dropper for 3 to 4 weeks till they could eat on their own.

Don't let the cat eat a Chinese loco! Cuz, an hour later, he'll want to eat another one. :bg:

Hi Dallas,

That was funny. I still have the black kitten. I taught her how to fetch so now she has her own toys to play with. Down side of that is now I spend a lot of time playing fetch with her.

I have also learned to keep my workroom door closed if I am not in it.

Bill:

That's a pretty neat project you have underway. I did not realize the Stanton RC unit + battery was as small as it is. Any idea of how long you can run on a battery that size?

Woodie Greene had written once that the battery life could be an issue in small scales, I suppose his larger models give him space for plenty of battery power. But in your HOn30 model, can the battery allow you to pull a train, for say, an hour?

Enquiring minds want to know,

Keith

Back after a couple years in storage the Chinese C2 project is back.

I read may different model train magazines each month, one of them is "Continental Modeller". In the August 2016 issue they did a review of a 3D Printed Chinese C2 locomotive. The model was in 009 or very close to HOn30.

I checked Shapeways and ordered two of them. I received them this past Monday.

Looking at the different N Scale possible donor engines I have it looks like I might power the tender and then create a "rolling only" set of drivers. At first look it seems I could do this if the tender was just a bit wider. I could modify the 3D Printed tender of just make a new one.

I am going to make a card stock tender first and see how it looks with the engine. If I like it I could stay with card stock or make another one out of Styrene.

If powering the tender works I will start gathering the many other parts necessary to finish this model.

I have a couple N Scale Bachmann Plymouth Diesel engines to be used for HOn30 donor power units so I started with one of them.  The Plymouth is a 3 axle unit and the Chinese tender is a three axle tender.

I make three card stock tender mock-ups before I got one that i liked the size of.

The power unit for the Plymouth - shell removed and the card stock pattern mock-up.

The powered tender with the 3D Printed Chinese C2 model.  Now I need to make a static but rolling chassis for the C2.  I am not sure how I am going to build it but I have lots of old parts to play with.

Looks great!. Now find a suitable steam loco chassis, remove motor and gears and you are in business.
Jose.
