It's better to have blogged and lost, than to have never blogged at all?

Jokes aside good to see you making headway on your outdoor layout. If it wasn't cold outside 70% of the year I might entertain the idea of one too...

Judging by the dirt piles in that first picture, you've got mighty big-assed gophers too.

But Titus - you've got such beautiful scenery for that remaining 30%. Could you manage just a little circle, maybe? Outdoor railroading - nothing else comes close!

I understand. When the wife unit and I first got married I spent two years in Sudbury, Ontario where snow is on the ground six months of the year and cold more than nine.

Those are from another project. We moved into this place six weeks ago and I've been busy with trying to fix years of half-assed done things around here that the previous owner fubar'd.

Made a change to the east loop of the GLR today. Flipped it and tucked it more into the corner of the property. Pics on the GLR blog...

Dwane

Things are looking good.

I note you have buried the lower part of the trunk of one of the trees, this may cause the trunk to rot thus killing the tree. Not sure if this applies to your native trees, but in Australia it would cause rot on our gum trees.

If it is going to be a problem you could use a metal or better still plastic boot to the bottom of the trunk, keeping the dirt away by an inch or so.

Good point Don. Actually there is only about 6 inches of dirt added. Much of the height of the loop comes from scraping dirt from the original surface of the sloped yard. Part of an overall yard project is to level a large part of the backyard.

In consideration of your point I'll probably have a dry creek originate at the tree which will once again uncover the tree trunk.
