Hi Rod, many, many thanks just pure awesome, now that is a huge N scale layout, you like the grain silos I see, would like one some where on my layout.

Yeah that is the trouble with DC all that mass of wiring and DPDT switch's, I plan to use Rotary switches to switch four throttles.

What brand DCC did you buy, I am looking at changing to DCC too, but need one that can switch to DC.

That loco I posted is DCC and will run on DC.

Love your control panel on two LCD screens, an option I would love to move into one day.

Tony.
Thanks for your kind comments.
I chose to go with Digitrax full radio (duplex) for my DCC stuff. Most of my friends are into N Scale and use Digitrax so it was a natural for me to choose this path. Lots of help when needed and I did not need to purchase a lot of throttles as the guys bring their own on ops night. Digitrax also has a full range so that also assisted my choice as I went into signalling and block detection using their accessories. You can run your DC trains on DCC track. Check out the Digitrax web site.
Three other mates use NCE and that is also a good system.
Rod.

H I Rod, no worries what's the measurements of your layout it is pretty awesome for a N scale layout.

Yeah someone was telling me with Digitrax you can have the choice of witching to DC. I am not sure if I will put decoders in all my locos, got 40+ and 4 are duel motors.

That's the trouble with DCC all the hidden costs, I will most probably have to get a boaster amp for my layout as it is 54 feet long HO scale, do you have one for yours.

One of the members in another forum I am in just bout a NCE system and he is happy he went that way.

I will check out Digitrax web site out, the a big con if conning my wife is the big problem. Would like to get the layout finished first, did you find my posting in the 00 garden railway section, under Tony M.

Winter is still hanging around up here in QLD had 2 degrees this morning but nice days, be like that all week.

The SFRSD occupies a two car garage size that was built as a shed ie no doors for a car to use. The layout inside measurements are 19.6"x 19.6'in. It is this size because I added internal stud walls the old part lined with masonite on the top half and plaster on the lower. The new bit is basically the same just used 4 mm MDF top and bottom. The ceiling is industrial grade 5 ply and insulated as too most of the walls. The floor has second hand carpet tiles. So its pretty good except on 40 degree days and very cold ones.
You do not need to add decoders to all you fleet straight away. Mine got done over a time.
Rod.

Hi Rod, that is a very good size N scale layout 19'6" x 19'6", wish I had a shed to put my layout in only have the pergola, which takes up nearly the back of the house and car port.

We can get 48 degree days, most days are 43 degrees and can't do anything in that heat outside.

I don't plan to rush into going DCC as yet.

Tony

Hi Rod

How's the work on the layout going ?

Just been looking through the Thread.

As a former 'N'er, I do miss the idea of LONG trains !

WOW ! ... Big space.

I see 'long train fan' Tony gives it the AWESOME and THUMBS UP rating !!

:moose:

Si.

Be great to see some recent Pix. Rod

Hi all,
As a reminder of how good Rod's layout is can I point you to http://www.freerails.com/view_post.php?post_id=57801 My visit to Rod's was back in Easter 2013, when Rod graciously hosted an open-house on both of his layouts for the layout tours part of the Australian Narrow Gauge convention. For a revisit to more good modelling have a look at http://www.freerails.com/view_topic.php?id=4108&forum_id=17 Rod's layouts are featured on Page 6.

Hi all,
Thanks for the update Dwayne. It is good to hear that the SFRSD layout has found a new home, has dodged the dumpster bullet and now has a ongoing life in a new location.

It truly was one of the most magnificent privately-owned N-scale layouts that I have seen. I hope my photos did it the justice it deserved.

Hi Si, pure awesome 38x38 feet in HO scale, I can do the length but not the width in a square shape, mine is an "U" shape layout, length 54x24ft stage two 56X47feet.

Planning the second station building modelled on GSR's East Perth terminal where the famous Indian Pacific ends her four day journey across Australia Via Adelaide.

Sad to see Rod had to see his layout, good news everyone can still run trains, in it's new home.

Rod not all lost are you having a private courtyard you could build an outdoor layout off the fence line.

A slight set back on my layout construction, I had basic surgical procedure on Wednesday, local hospital and had an issue with the anaesthetic, has up set my asthma, take a couple more days to get over it.
