Hi Guys
I've been obsessed with Shays for 'bout 20 years...
...but have never had one to run !!!
Hope to change that soon !
( is that a Shay obsession or non-obsession ? )
Cheers
Si.
( we're all nuts ! )

Si-Shays are hypnotic to watch, mine are not the most reliable locos but I love to watch them git it. Porters can go where others fear to tread...or track.

PS-check Favorite Spot, they have (maybe still) Bachmann On30 Shays without DCC or woo woo sound for about $90 USD.

Thanks Ryan, maybe someday I can get "back east" for a visit. It doesn't matter about poor track, the locos are used to that...in fact, they don't need track at all!

David-videos such as that seem to promote the "fun" of watching a loco run across the scenery, but there's another side. MRy's #2 Rudy has had at least 2 rebuildings after running across scenery and then off into the concrete canyon. One time it was a misaligned switch and the "engineer" was watching some ladies sunbathing next door. Another time, #2 went off the turntable at the shops when the throttle trim (an r/c term) was set improperly and the "supt." was busy with glue and dirt at the other end of the line. Rudy slowly "walked" off the tt and went to............ So see, it ain't all fun and games but sometimes you just have to laugh.

Woodie,
Hahahah I can't stop laughing because of your story, but ya your right, I've had my equally not so enjoyable moments of clumsily dropping fragile equipment. And "engineer" you say?
