I just thought I would check out what looks to be some pretty with it model railroaders. I said in the lead Las Vegas --for now. I know there is nothing Hicountry about Las Vegas -- BUT at the end of August I am moving to Colorado --at about 9500 ft. --Thats plenty HI. I am 71 , just retired from the transportation industry, have been a modeler ever since I tried to build a 10 cent Comet Kit Ercoupe when I was about 6 --- tried to do it with one of my dads razor blades -- he used DOUBLE edge blades -- cut the crap out of my fingers and never got the kit built! I hated Comet airplanes my entire life --did build a few but I still hated them. Thru the years I have built many model airplanes -- I loved the old Monogram Speed-e-built kits I built every one of them --many more than once. I never cared for plastic model airplanes but when plastic cars came out ------- WOW !! I was already a hotrodder by 1956 and that is about when Revell came out with their deuce coupe and roadster -- went nuts with them and when 1/25 cars came out that got me even deeper . Trains? I had a Marx set in the late 40s and , just the standard round the Xmas tree thing but I wanted a bit more even then --- I had a Lionel catalog but we were not the type that could afford Lionel --- I wanted an airport rotating beacon and a crane of some sort that were shown in the lionel catalog. SO -- I had some 10 and 15 cent Comet Kits that I had long since given up on and used the balsa in them to build my two coveted train accessories. The Marx loco died about 1949 and I was pretty much into cub scouts for a bit. How I finally got into Model Railroading in a big way was when I was about 40 or so, Iwas still building cars and airplanes ( RC now) I saw a number of interesting buildings that I thought would be fun to build , but what to do with them ? Thats when it dawned on me -- IF you are a model railroader The WHOLE world is your prototype!! You can build anything that catches your fancy. Hope this is not too verbose but you asked --sort of---- Who are you ? . Dave
Dave-welcome to Freerails, you will love it here. Comet kits? Yep, some of us know how to trim skin with Gillette double edge blue blades. I don't talk much, prefering to just sit and watch. Sit and watch what comments I get from the young whippersnappers! Write as much as you want, we love verbage and photos.
