You guys were talking about the little 2-2-0 in the other thread and so I started looking around the web at different and unusual locomotives. These electric powered steam locomotives looked to be as unusual as anything I've ever seen. These were apparently retrofitted with electric heaters during wartime when coal was in short supply but hydro electric power was plentiful.
Woodie says "OK, I'll get right on that!" Yep, right after I build some new sections, build about 12 more ore cars, rebuild stuff on the existing layout, and generally enjoy things in the nice morning air.
Seriously however (?) I have seen photos of steam locos with pantographs. How about a little "steam dummy" with a trolley pole and traction motors (trolley car) and a steam boiler to run an electric generator and therefore the motors when the overhead runs out. Herb, this might just be up your alley...or something!

I'm never going to have any traction on anything I build. I like it but I think it looks too fiddly for me to get right and too much in the way. Still, i enjoy reading about such things as these locos and seeing the pictures of them.
Woodie, Mogollon is way cool just like it is and you seem to keep making it better and better every day.
