When one is up a waterbody without a means of propulsion it is always advisable to ask for assistance...which I am. In August I ordered an Artitec kit from Reynauld's Euro Imports and they still list my order as being "backordered". Since that time I have had several correspondences with Artitec (a Dutch company) who have informed me that none of their items are on backorder. When calling Reynauld's I am told "...they are in the next shipment and should be in your hands in two to three weeks" (that was over a month ago).

I will be canceling my order at the end of December (if not before); but am in a position of not being able to find a source for Artitec models (specifically their Spoorpont ferry kit). Does anyone have a source for these kits (preferably U.S.)?

Ray

Ray,

Can't help you out with the purchase or where to find were one can purchase one. I did do a google search of both Artitech and Reynauld's Euro Imports.

Artitech has a list of 26 ships and the Spoorpont ferry is in that listing. Reynauld's Euro Imports has a list of 21 ships and the Spoorpont ferry is not among them. Here are the pages I've looked at.

It seems to me the Reynauld's sold you something they don't even seem to carry in their inventory. Perhaps another inquiry at Reynauld's explaining that the Spoorpont is not in their catalog yet their supplier carries it in their inventory. And as you said cancel the order. If paid by credit card call your credit card company and have them put in a dispute claim. Mention that to them when and if you call them up, Renault's that is. I'm sure that will make them take notice.

Let us know how you make out.

Bernd

Bernd - To set the record straight, I didn't initially order the Artitec Spoorpont ferry but the Wittow ferry...which Reynauld's definitely listed in their catalog. [The Wittow ferry is narrow gauge whilst the Spoorpont is HO...I didn't know of the Spoormont kit until I contacted Artitec directly.]

The order for the Wittow ferry kit was placed, and confirmed by Reynauld's, on 17 August 2012. Since that date, my Reynauld's account lists the product as "back ordered'. A subsequent email, and telephone contact, with Reynauld's assured me that the Wittow ferry kit "was on the next shipment from their supplier AND should be in my hands within 2 - 3 weeks." Sadly that has not occurred.

So where do I go from here? Failing to find a marketing source for this product, I will contact the Artitec home office (in the Netherlands) and seek to order directly from them. Most manufacturers are loathe to sell outside their dealer chain...this, however, is a very special case. It is entirely possible that Artitec will direct me to a vendor that can supply said kit. I will keep everyone informed of my progress. [However, if you know of a supplier for this product, that ships to the U.S., please inform.]

Regards,

Ray

Ray:

I have a Artitec Wittow ferry kit if you are interested. I purchased it several years ago when I was in HOn30 but never got around to building as I got hooked on On30. I also have alot of other HOn30 items including a brass HOn30 shay, climax, and heisler but haven't decided if I will hold onto them or sell them as I might regret it later if I get interested again in HOn30 and will be unable to purchase these locos again.
However, The Wittow ferry I will sell. It has only been opened to inspect the kit but never even got started on building it. When BNF Hobbies in Bakersfield, CA was in business it was fairly easy to obtain Artitec kits and that is where I purchased my Wittow kit from. I was sorry to see him retire as he had alot of stuff not found elsewhere.

'R' - I thank you very much for your offer to sell your Wittow ferry kit. To be honest, I originally ordered the Wittow kit - not knowing it was HOn30 gauge. That, in no way, constitutes a desire to cancel my order with Reynauld's...I think I have waited long enough for delivery (or communication from Reynauld's).

While I don't have any HOn30 layouts in the 'pipeline', I am in the planning stages of one that will utilize the MinitrainS Koppel locomotive and diminutive cars. Sadly, this layout will not require a ferry (...it being a vineyard/winery). My main layout, Monks Island Railway (HO scale), does utilize a double-length Peco Loco-Lifter as a 'ferry' (and a not very realistic one at that). It goes without saying that the Spoorpont ferry (HO scale/gauge) would definitely be an improvement.

'R' - I will keep your email address on file on the off-chance that I decide upon a narrow gauge layout plan that would use the Wittow. Again, thank you so much for you offer.

Regards,

Ray
