Well, last Wednesday, Charley and I decided to hike the DVRR right of way to Ryan,
or at least as close as the "No Trespassing" sign would allow us, give or take a few feet.....
The map shows our baby guage hikes on multiple days, multiple levels of track (blue)
The hike we did Wednesday on the DVRR (purple).
And the upcoming Tonopah & Tidewater hike to Old Ryan site and Lila C. mine (green)

Looking across a trestle less gap....

Our path forward.....

A couple of right of way rock fills...

Mr Lix waiting on me.....

The next missing trestle, scoot down & back up.....

Moving on....

Old construction camp shelter from DVRR build.. More of these on the return trip.

My favorite can find of the trip....

There is a white dot on the right of this photo, that is our goal of Ryan in the distance. Beautiful views all along the journey.....

This was a cool find, took quite a tumble from above....

Came down from the dump up above....

Trying to find the name of this portion of mining activity, looks like it loaded directly
into the DVRR ore cars.... Found it, the "Played Out" mine, 2+ miles from Ryan.

Mr Lix recharging his batteries, waiting on me while I check some things out....

One of those strange happenings that make you go Hmmm....L:
While Charley and I are standing here, my text message alert went off twice in a few seconds....
It is the sound of a train whistle..
There is no cell reception in the area, not even in Death Valley Junction.
That it some how got through at this time and place is rather odd, but we found it most appropriate..... :2t:

Another missing trestle, the quality of rock work was amazing....

Now for one of those interesting items ... The colors are amazing in this area, the photos do not due them justice...
And the rock from the cut was used in the next fill area.
From rather drab volcanic rock fill to Wizzard of Oz colors...
Go ahead, color your railroad like this.... ;)

Making good use of the "no trespassing" sign, camera stand...
Where we came from...

And where we were heading...

Points of interest on the return trip....

That's it for now, Charley should be adding a few more soon.
Good weather, windy, but tolerable...
No idea how far we hiked, but we were both sore the next day...
Now for the Tonapah & Tidewater hike...

It's stuff like this which makes Freerails what it is...the best website around. Thanks Ken and Cha-wee for the wonderments and the time it takes to show them.
Mui excellente...

Very good. I know you and many others find this scenery beautiful, but for me it is bleak but interesting.
The things they did in that arid place are wondrous.

Can't imagine stacking all that rock into walls that are still standing--without mortar and with a lot of heat, probably--

Thanks, Guys!

One of the things that I was looking for on this walk was Ryan Cemetary.
We found it, though it took some looking. 6 graves, in a rather remote place.
I wonder if there is any record of names and cause of death....

Each cross was a little different, and the one grave was covered in borax ore.
