Hi very skilled people of Freerails
I haven´t post anything in a long time,
since I haven´t made much progress on the On30 field
(nor the rolling stock or the layout).
But I keep logging in to Freerails every now and then to read some posts.
And since am here, I thought of posting something you may like.
Here are a couple of pictures of a large scale narrow gauge Shay,
we built a couple years ago.
The prototype was a two foot gauge Shay,
from The 'Silver City, Pinos Altos & Mogollon R.R.' in New Mexico.
The scale is 1:10
It measures 100 cm. long (39" without the couplers)
23 cm. wide (9") and 33 cm. tall. (13")
It weights about 35 kg.
This is an exhibition model only so it´s not powered,
but you can see the operation of the valves, when you push it back and forth.
The engine was built mostly in steel, chassis, boiler and most of the trucks,
but has a lot of bronze parts and details.
The water tank was hand crafted in brass.
The chimney, steam and sand domes are bronze cast, as well as the journal boxes.
The wheels were machined out of a steel bar.
I had the chance to participate in the project, by building the cedar wood cab,
it features operating windows and roof hatch.
We build this engine and a couple of cars,
along with their exhibition base for a private collector in Switzerland.
We produced 5 of these, but unfortunately for lack of time, we could assemble only one.

Yep, that is one fine model...
Even more so since it is SCPA&M #3.
I am very happy to know that the Silver City narrow gauge is not forgotten,
at least in Argentina and Tejas!
I could stand more photos.

Here are some more pictures of the engine and the cars.
A Gondola with the Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington lettering,
and a Sandy River short caboose.
Now I don't think these cars have prototypes, they are more freelanced models,
based on similar 2 foot gauge equipment.
The guy with the long hair is my father Ricardo.
He is the master that taught me everything I know,
and keeps teaching me things.
That picture helps you visualize the dimensions of this equipment.
The engine and the cars feature operating brake system,
in the case of the cars, you can activate it when turning the brake wheel.
The last picture belongs to a 2nd short caboose of our own,
the picture was taken outside in a garden railroad that we are building for this scale.

This is not our first Shay, we build one before.
Also 1:10 scale but that one was based on 3 foot gauge prototype.
