One of our veteran members is constantly telling me that FreeRails has too many forums, but asked what would be better, the only thing that he came up with is that all narrow gauge should be under one forum (combining On30 On3 HOn30 HOn3 etc)

He claims that the present list of forums is ill conceived, illogical , impractical, illegal, immoral and I don't know what else.  Mainly his gripe is that there are too many on the list.

Even if he is correct--if the forums where changed at this point, the amount of work re-assigning all the posts from the last 7 years to the "correct" forum would be monumental.

Assuming that we were back in 2006 and helping Dave set things up--and I do know that there were a number of suggestions and ideas tossed about back then by Mods and others-- what changes would you make, regarding the way the forums should be set up?

Me--I think that Dave and the founding members did a good job. It has only been necessary to add a couple subjects to the list--and only one that has been dropped for lack of interest and participation that I can think of.

Common--don't be shy--

Herb

While I am a known radical and like to stir the pot, my opinion is...LEAVE IT LIKE IT IS! Now, I might put the "HOn3" forum in the NG forum...but that's about all.

I think there is no putting the genie back in the bottle at this point. That said, discussion boards such as this can get too specific and I do see the point of the argument. Still, I think going back now makes little sense.

There's a (german?) saying: "All things which make fun are immoral, illegal or fattening" so why should this forum be an exception? :bg:

If I have problems to find a certain posting, I use forum search or an internet search engine. And the number of new postings every day isn't as big as you couldn't have a quick look at all of them.

My favorite british forum (NGRM online) was reorganized some months ago along with a new forum software. I wouldn't say it is better now, but we have a lot of broken links between postings.

Speaking of polls, perhaps it's time to add a dozen or so new sections offering pole-road operations in every different combination of scale and gauge imaginable!  With all the dead-rail chatter going on here, it shouldn't be overlooked that railroading on wooden rails (or poles) is entirely possible now! :)

Oh, come on!  Impractical, illegal, ill-conceived and immoral crap is what attracts the new members! :)

Keep life simple and play around with ideas just as such ... :thumb:

I went to Tesco's today hoping to get our regular weekly shop done in record time to beat the looming heatwave only to find they'd done their usual trick of moving everything around "for seasonal reasons"! I think they hoped I'd buy something extra by being made to look harder for what I wanted - no chance and I left thoroughly irritated vowing never to go there again.
Relevance to the forum? Leave well alone,we're used to it and like it as it is.

Well let's see. With1252 members, so far 8 have voiced opinion. That leaves 1244 to voice their opinion. I don't think your going to get all to vote.

I say leave it as it is. If only 1 out off 1252 is complaining I say to him "Find another forum to join". End of story.
