Helmut,

I built a Fiehmann SST/7, it was amazing for the time. 

What really got me was his radio controlled F7 setup
(I still have the original magazine),
that sparked an interest that continues to this day with RC trains.

Until my Dad :mex: invested some real  BIG $$$ DOUGH  :shocked: :shocked:  in a pair of 'H&M' Clippers !!

Transformerless, I've no idea what powered the NEW shinny 'H&M' controllers ?  :us:



Possibly the 16 Volt A.C. output of the old 'Tri-ang' ! :!:

All that DANGEROUS:w:$4!7  was hidden well away under the benchwork. :us:



Come on ... I was only about 5 years old ! at the time ...

... didn't learn to solder until I was at least as old as  Adrian Mole !  :P

I needed some vintage style wire for my faux tube amp,
and found a great source for old-timey electrical stuff at Vintage Wire & Supply.

That cotton covered round wire just fits in with the period transformer.  :)

Of course you can have a faux tube amp, using this stuff.

Back in 1969, they already showed how to replace the tubes..


Addendum:

When searching for 'smoothflow', I find this product more to my liking.

This amp is about as faux as it gets, I only wanted the look of tubes. 

Mandatory model railroad content: I plan to add a tube to my next RC transmitter!  ;)




 
It adds a nice glow to the audio cabinet.
