Here is a readable history of the railway's 30 years of existence - its planning and construction,
methods of operation.
Read about how it pioneered in novel equipment,
heating feedwater in the stacks,
and being one of the first to use oil burning locomotives exclusively.
(don't ask me? pit-nickers ... I'm readin' the JACKET !)

Yes, it is a great book by Ted Wurm and Al Graves. Matter of fact, here's a link to available copies from ABE...hold on...they start at a couple of bucks!
At those prices, EVERYBODY can afford one! This is a cool book and has a chapter about how to fire a Shay locomotive, from getting the fire going to putting her to bed after a run. Great stuff and there are drawings of the Shays, Heisler, and the incredible tourist cars and "gravity cars". YOU NEED THIS BOOK!

A model railroad based on the MT&MW would be almost impossible to operate protypically.
Prove me wrong!!
