Emulsified asphalt is petroleum based so no reason that oil wouldn't work either.  I think that it was 4-5% of the mix would be asphalt, or oil as chasv suggested.

Not that I plan on setting up my soon-to-be-built 35n2 layout in the great outdoors like Woodie did.  The Santa Ana winds that we get here would probably tear a layout apart.

the last couple of days would cure you of that idea especially if you live up near ucsb talked to a guy once that had a picture window where he could see the mountains after it blew in 2 times he had store front glass put in

I've lost asphalt shingles off my roof when we get some real good gusts.  Not too far from UCSB.  I can be on old Route 66 in about 20 minutes through Cajon Pass.
