For naming structures or dioramas I used to keep a pad and pen close by and when names would pop into my head as I was building , I would write it down.

The idea for the ROAD KILL DINER just came to me all on its own , after I wrote that down there was no changing it. I took an On30 Bachmann coach and turned it into a roadside diner complete with a back cooking area structure.

This all happened during my restaurant diner building stage where it was one after another. They were SALTIE SAMS SEAFOOD EMPORIUM in which I got to employ a tiger shark I purchased off ebay and then I constructed a building to suit it. The same thing applied when I bought a mermaid and used it on the roof of a small brick building as the sign. I called the structure the MERRY MERMAID.

The only one I did not use is the bobble head drunken steer. I de-bobble headed him and got the head down onto the shoulders , making him less big and suiting O scale a little better. The steer looks stoned and I intend to use it on a steak house called THE HAMMERED HEFFER.

Have fun with the names of your buildings.

Mike, I like your style! I just finished RUBY'S BAR (and Bordello). Although the name on the building is Ruby's Bar, atop of the Budweiser sign says, Rooms For Rent ~ Hourly Rates Available. Sometimes I'll find 1 item or 1 figure/person, and will construct a building from that one theme. That's what happened with Ruby's Bar; I bought some 'shady ladies.' Do you have a site where I can see all of your work?

Mike, your building are outstanding. I noticed one of the webpages was dated 2006; how many years have you been building? Is it your full time business?

Thanks for the links,
D.A.

I started building around 1987 in HO scale and quickly discovered FINE SCALE MINIATURES kits and started building them. Next thing I know I got dioramas and structures all over the house. In 1992 at the insistence of wife she says why not take some these to the #1 hobby shop in Toronto and see if they will take some on consignment to sell. Took up a bunch and they tried 3 to start with. I get a call 5 days later that they sold them all and do I have any others , and so it began.

I just kept building stuff , kits and then started scratching buildings, I was having fun and I was deadly fast at it. Then they start sending me people to have stuff built, custom. Did that in HO scale up until built #389 when I scratch built my first O scale building some where around 2003 ???? Last build # is #516 still sitting here at 90% finished.

In 2000 when we got a computer I started selling them on ebay exclusively Around 2005 I made a deal with TOM YORKE himself to re-release his O scale hydrocal kits in limited re-issues or 50 pieces or less . I did that until around 2012 when I stopped modeling.

In 2012 I purchased a 1935 Chevrolet roadster on ebay from seller in TENN , to go with my 1935 Chevrolet coupe street rod. I call the new car SHAZZBOTT . Car was originally stamped out in USA all the parts sent to argentina and re=-assembled on the Bueno Aries GM assembly line.

Been making a street rod out of it ever since, not sure if I will long enough to finish it as there was a lot of bad body repairs hidden under plastic filler.

I finished my O scale boarding house, and as you can see, it's Miss Bertha's Boarding House. I enjoyed designing the sign, and painted the Miss Bertha figure like the one I used on the sign.
Thanks for looking,
D.A.

lots of nice features on the building.......especially the sign...........that's the one thing that I was stuck on and no program to print one out.

Roof is terrific, just the right amount of rusting to the roof pipe, but it seems awfully big compared to the brick chimney top. cannot be a stink pipe as its too large, whats it supposed to be ?

First of all, sorry for the delay in answering, but I've had the flu, and now I finally feel human.

Thanks for the kudo Mike & Dennis. Yes, Mike the vent pipe is on the large size, but it looks larger than it is because it's closest to the camera.
