I've got an idea for a challenge, or a hilarious youtube video.

If you have never heard of the show "Pimp my ride" on MTV, don't bother checking it out... Synopsis: Annoying Rapper (Xzibit) takes people's hoopty wagons (crappy cars) and turns them into near show quality cars. They do some ridiculous stuff.

So... "Pimp my kit" would be to take a structure kit from the Plasticville, Life Like, Model Power etc. (set maximum MSRP at like 30 bucks), and be given a ridiculously low budget for add ons (10 bucks maybe) and see how skillfully you can polish a turd.

I've seen tons of masterfully crafted 200 dollar limited edition kits on forums, but What can those modelers do when they are handicapped? Why not show young kids, or new hobbyists what can be done with a super limited budget, patience, and skill?

What say ye?

You mean like taking a funky old Lionel O "quonset hut" building and covering it with scale corrugated sheathing and some Grandt line windows & doors? A Plasticville HO "coaling tower" turned into a nice O scale mine tipple? A cheap plastic crane (?? scale) into detailed "junk" alongside a building? An old Lionel O27 tank car body (cost $1 at a train show) becomes a fuel facility in another scale? Is that the kind of stuff you are talking about?
No, I don't think anybody has done anything like that...LOL

Upgrade to the Bachmann O-gauge tipple. Added to the bin using parts from a second kit, scratchbuilt hoist house (before MicroMark came out with their kit). Work in *very slow* progress.

Not saying that none of us has ever done it before, I just think it would be neat to give a time limit and a budget, and see what everyone comes up with.

How 'bout a cheapo Plasticville Frosty Bar converted to a nifty 1950s retro greasy spoon?

Neat D.A.

That sandwich chef is an Italian 'Homie', right ?

Nice bit of 'up-scaling' ... love the 'old school' look.

All the best.

Cheers

Si.
