Back in the day, Philadelphia did have hose jumpers for the trolleys that ran all throughout the city.

Imagine standing there and watching and the ramps cause the train to jump the track but the hose is perfectly fine. I know it wouldn't work but if those things did work, that's what would happen.

Page 40 has some info on the Philly hose jumpers, also has a pic of a truck used to work on the overhead that they would sometimes use to run the hoses over the trolleys.
