HI all. I've been away for months with professional obligations. It's good to be back.
I want to improve the log loads on my Bachmann log buggies. The Bachmann logs are awful, and I want to replace them with something that more realistically models old growth Doug fir. I've tried using real fir twigs, and I'm not satisfied. What are people using?
Hello Michael and welcome back to the forum,I don't know what I'm using, but I went out into the garden and looked at bushes and trees in my yard.I found some branches that looked OK and did some pruning, then cut to length with stepped cuts.I also used the trees and shrubs in the yard for building bridges, buildings and trees on the layout.I can tell you I used cherry tree suckers dried out for bridge piles I'm sure some of your home grown trees or shrubs should be suitable,if not look at next doors yard.....cheers Peter
A guy who did this ran a razor saw up and down the outside of these trimmings, and the 'bark' looked better like that. Didn't take him long to equip an entire log train.
Yep, plastic logs SUCK. Go with real branches when you can!
