''runs out to Granite Island and if you pick the day right "British" experience with a howling gale and sleet caressing you on the top deck.'''

Sounds enticing. If I could get an afternoon trip, I'd have time for my self inflicted flogging, and wear my hair shirt--

That part of the country is quite nice you can stay at Goolwa and take a trip on the paddle steamer; http://www.oscar-w.info/ and yes the guys who run her will welcome you with open arms if you show any interest at all they'll have you throwing logs into the furnace in no time, Then take the Cockle train to Victor Harbour; http://www.steamrangerheritagerailway.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3:cockle-train&Itemid=6
and then round out your day with a bracing ride out to Granite Island, scones with jam and cream in the tea rooms then back to Adelaide on the train and then on Sunday you would be off to see the Trams at St Kilda; http://www.trammuseumadelaide.com/ Once again you would be wise not to show any enthusiasm here as these guys are just so enthusiastic it rubs off and can be very infectious... Cross the continent by Indian Pacific and then visit Whiteman Park in Perth, once again don't show any interest here either or you'll find yourself driving the tram...
Oh and while your here a trip on Puffing Billy, The Pichi Richi Railway and of course the Gulflander (let me know when your coming I can get you a seat beside the driver) will have you entranced, throw into that mix a safe environment with only the police legally armed stunning beaches, a laid back non puritanical lifestyle, fantastic beer, superb pies, and you have one hell of a holiday....

Sorry to burst that bubble TT, but you can't catch a train all the way to Adelaide now, but SteamRanger can provide a world class steam hauled train ride back to beautiful Mt Barker.
The rest is still true, we have some amazing experiences to offer here in South Australia.

You can catch a Red Hen to Mt Barker from Victor Harbor but no rail connection to Adelaide, maybe a bus service! L:
I am going up to Quorn next weekend Trevor, I will find out the state of Coffee Pot then, I haven't heard anything about her for a while now.
I used to be involved with Pichi Richi Railway and did a lot of work on Coffee Pots carriage section, then I got married, enough said, now I'm not married but tooo :old dude: I can't win, LOL

I really liked Quorn, stayed there for a while while we explored the Flinders Ranges. Hey I even got a hug from Lisa McCune, did you know she is a railfan and doesn't like ships that much?
We were both laying in the dirt with cameras....
