The Independent Live Steamers ( ILS ) is a group of men and women who build and maintain live steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. The scale they model in is 1 inch & 1-1//2 inch scale. Each locomotive is hand built by the owner or owners and takes more than a year to build from scratch. Most of the members are located in Pennsylvania, but there are a few scattered across other states as far as Texas. This is a private group but new members are always welcome to join us as we are always looking for new talent.

Most of the locomotives you will see here are modeled after their bigger sister's of the Pennsylvania Railroad and a few other railroads as well but mostly PRR. Some members own one locomotive ( together or seperate ) or two locomotives ( together or seperate ) and are taken to live steam meets all across the United States. There are serveral members who do have private tracks and hold meets for only Independent Live Steam Members and their families. We hope that you enjoy our new website and the photo's that are provided for use on this site.

Thank You, Matthew Miller

None of the Q2's were saved from the scrappers torch so this one makes this the only surviving Q2.

Cool stuff!

And some real steam and not that stinky stuff used in some modeltrains which produces just a little bit of smoak. (Yes, I don't like that stuff).

Do you own a steam loco yourself?

Ronnie Shupard is in the finishing stages of building and EBT No. 11 2-6-2. Being a narrow gauge prototype, IIRC the model is 2 1/2" scale to run on the 1 1/2" scale (7" gauge) track.

Alwin, Sadly no I don't have a steam engine. I do however have the plans for the A5 and have the cab. Me and my brother are going to build it together or possibly I might go to my good friend Wayne Godshall to have it built.

Yes I know. Me and Ron keep in contact with each other every so often. It's good to see that someone finally is building #11.

Yes they are. A lot of time has gone into them and each one is accurate down to the smallest detail.
