Simplest train set ever. No pesky electronics, scenery, contests or nitpickers. Just fun:

Hmmmm I wonder if that has a practical application?
You think you could make a train run on magnetic attraction alone?
Maybe; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83TVw2CJxhk

I had a return trip on this in April. So smooth you do not know you are doing 431kmh....

I believe that there were experiments conducted after WW2 with a large naval type gun, using this principal

Hello Herb, you might be thinking of the so called "rail-gun" - actually nothing to do with our kind of rail. Previously promoted as a potential (enemy) satellite destroyer in President Reagan's 'Star Wars' project.
The "Maglev" railroad concept was based on roughly the same general principle; there is one short line in China but I don't know of any other.

Hi all, The Chinese one is Shanghai is 30 km (19 miles long) and travelling at 270mph does the trip in 8 minutes.
see http://www.transrapid.de/cgi/en/basics.prg?session=cbdbbd3e55e6cc1a_983004&a_no=4

They also have another test facility at Emsland in Germany. The English version of their main web site is at
http://www.transrapid.de/cgi/en/basics.prg?session=cbdbbd3e55e6cc1a_983004

and magnetic haulage can be used in model form as well :bg:
