The route of the 10Km long 'Moffat Tunnel' & the twisty old line used before the tunnel opened.

From 'Popular Science' in 1922.

Inside the 'Moffat Tunnel' during construction.

The modern 'Moffat Tunnel', West portal.

Photo coutesy of Christopher Ness.

Years ago a friend of mine actually modeled part of the line around the Moffat Tunnel in HO.

He had a photo of the plaques on either side of the tunnel mouth.

I seem to recall he had visited the tunnel & shot the photos himself & measured the plaques.

This was of course way back in the days before P.C.s Photoshop & printers etc.

He knew I printed my own B&W images in my darkroom at home.

So he said to me, can you make me some HO scale plaques for the model ?

I said yeah no problem & we worked out how big the B&W prints should be.

No idea what that was, but they look around 4'x6' maybe to me.

So next club meet, I delivered him the smallest B&W prints I'd ever made.

Yep ! you could read them as well, if you used a powerful magnifying glass !
