Found article and photos dealing with the Porters DCC ... Well while I'm not unskilled, I think I'll just leave it be as I don't think I'd want to de-solder and rewire with the tools I have at this point.

If I can get or build secondary speed controllers, that seems simpler.

Then I can wait for Bachmann or Bluerails to come out with a Bluetooth board I can add in and set the speed from my phone 😃

Of course then I'll need to convert the other one upto DCC and Bluetooth 😳

The cost of adding separate rheostats for each line is almost as much as a low cost or used power pack.

If there are some local train shows in your area check and see if anyone is selling used power packs. At the shows out this way one person has them at 40% to 50% of what a new one costs. They can even be the ones that Bachmann sells in their low cost HO and On30 sets.

Howdy ...how about this...install batteries in the Porters along with a dpdt switch. This can control direction/ on and off. Single speed but no electrical hassles and no dirty track problems. If I seems the can't be done...look here for " r/ c porter" in the r/ c forum. Not only battery but radio control board can fit in the cab. Good luck with this project.

Thanks, Woodie. RC could be interesting, just out side my abilities right now. I do love the idea of these new Bluetooth systems that seem to be coming.

But both might be out of my price range.

Nathan, ya' after a bunch of research, it seems adding more power supplies is the easiest way.

I'll have to hunt around on eBay and such as I don't know of any train shows anywhere around here. Hell, finding a hobby shop around here is hard.

Anyway, I think adding feeders on the Oval will get that track running better. If one assumes the "feeders for every 3 feet of track" this is just long enough to fit in that rule and the engine does change speed (slower and faster) as gets to that range of the power connector

Woodie, I think I found a link within the forums you're referring to. R/c Porter, but the link returns an error :(

Read through a few dozen post on RC and such, still think it's currently outside my skill set and affordability, does look like it would be fun to mess with though
