Now, the fun part: modelling water ( a small and calm stream in that case ) .
Modelling the stream bed : 2 layers of foamcore and some drywall spackling compound
Painting the stream bed : Light grey at the edges and darker in the center to simulate depth , with some mottled brown .
Add some material: branches, sand ,rocks, old tires etc,
Build a dam to contain the "water" .As can be seen on the picture I used some piece of styrene sheet hold in place by some blue painter tape. The dam must be 100% waterproof so I sealed it using clear caulking. The caulking is easily removed after the pouring medium is dry.
Pour the "water" I use the Liquitex pouring medium, it is very stable , stays clear
Pour several layers ( if required ) of 1/8 " thick maximum
