Hi Frerailers
With all of the interest in adding waterfront details, I thought I should post this picture of a recent build for a totally DMIR layout. This is a Ho scale 730' long Great Lakes iron ore carrier. It scales out to 88" long and 7 1/2" wide on a base 96" long. It will sit next to a Walthers ore dock that is 12' long. It is totally scratch built. About 1300 hours. hope it is of interest to someone. There is also an open pit ore mine on this layout with all of the associated mining equipment at the bottom of the pit including a train that runs around the perimeter to the bottom of the pit.

PS being from Denver area especially sad to see Caboose follow the trend to internet business or close.

Who said HO scale 'stock' is small? Wow, very interesting layout for sure. I'll be watching. ;)

Hi Clif,
I'll be watching too. One model mine owner to another - that is one cool layout detail :glad::glad::bow::bow::bow:
And a 12' dock to go with it?? OH WOW!!

I look forward to seeing your progress at the "Pit". It will take a few trains trips from the "bottom of the hole" to fill the "Iron Range",

Here is another view of the ore boat.If you look close you can see the Ho figures at the corner of the hatch crane. I can only post these one post at a time because they were taken by phone and there is a sizing issue I can't seem to fix. It was a real fun build.

The boat is beootifool. But will overpower anything smaller than a hangar sized layout.

You would think so, but the way my friend has designed and built it, it all fits nicely and it is actually quite small.I will post some pics of it but at later date. I have also built just about all of the DMIR mow equipment. The guy is a total DMIR fan.

I think it will look great Clif. I am astounded at the size of it, but am waiting to see the thing 'in-situ' if you will.
