Thanks Si but I'm sufficiently dumb as to not know how to get into the Firefox menu. At some time I set Firefox with Google as the home page so that's all that comes up on my screen. I've been to the 'net to enquire and it suggests I call up %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ but that doesn't show me anything like the files that you're referring to. I think it's best I leave well alone and deal with the issue when I next get my laptop serviced. I'm more and more sure that there's some incompatibility between my system and the forum as the problem doesn't occur with any other site.

Hi Doug.

PREFERENCES is in one of the normal drop-down menus, at the top-left of your screen.

Go there, then the ADVANCED button, click that.

Last step, click on NETWORKS.

Then simply EMPTY CACHE.

Simple.

All those faulty 'cached files' will be gone.

You should I think, get new 'mended links' from 'Flickr'

We hope !

Si.

If the problem at 'Flickr' we are guessing got fixed.

It may have only affected certain parts of your photo-hosting.

Which is maybe why only a few photos were either muddled or bloated.

Sorry Si, but I just don't get this. I have no drop down box on screen nor any way to get to one as far as I can see. As I said, I'll have to go in to our local specialists and get them to look things over. This is all too much for my lonely single brain cell!

Doug, I have had mucho problems putting photos on my thread...I changed the computer to an "earlier date" and that worked until Windows did some "updates", the change worked again until Mozilla screwed with me somehow...when I wrote a post and wanted a photo, I clicked on the G and got "browser not supported" BS...Well, I can send photos to my gallery from the computer but that's as far as it goes. Si offered some suggestions and even helped out. Then (while just screwing around), I tried this...I wrote the words, hit enter and moved the vertical line down a bit, brought up FR on another tab, went to my gallery and clicked on the photo I wanted. It was enlarged...then (from experience with another site) I RIGHT clicked on that large photo, a box dropped down with some stuff..among it "copy image", I left clicked on that then went to the other tab with my post, RIGHT clicked and got another drop down with "Paste" among the selections...I left clicked on that and THERE WAS MY PHOTO JUST AS IT USED TO BE WHEN I WAS A GOOD BOY AND USED THE "G"...It worked! Maybe you can try that...good luck!

Woodie

Thanks Woodie. When I've re-read your post to get it in my thick head I'll have a bash and see what happens.

Hi Doug.

Just another clue as to where the 'preferences' button is in FIREFOX.

It is in the same menu as 'About Firefox' & 'Quit Firefox'.

There are only 9 menus in the FIREFOX that I am using now...

...it really shouldn't be that difficult to find 'Preferences'.

Good luck ... This tape will self destruct in 5 seconds . . . . .

Thanks for your patience Si but I'm completely clueless about computers. I haven't any idea as to how to get into Firefox menus and the leads in your last post mean nothing I'm afraid. As I said earlier, I'll get round to letting the experts have a look at some time.

Meantime, I am noticing that other posters have fat photos in their threads so it's either not peculiar to me and possibly a throwback to the forum crash or it's some glitch in my viewing.

In the same way as the photo gallery is only available in certain backgrounds, I've tried changing that but it makes no difference.

Hi Doug.

Thanks for your observation on other 'fat photos'.

That is most peculiar.

I have not seen this myself.

However, Freerails DOES allow Members to Post whatever size photo they wish.

Provided it is under 0.5 Megabytes in file-size.

We generally recommend 800x--- photos, as you know.

Some Members Post 1024x--- photos as well.

But for example, if a Member wants to Post a 'panorama'...

...much wider than 800 or 1024 pixels...

...it will display on the Page at the size they choose.

This obviously involves 'scrolling' the Page.

But it does mean that a wider & higher-res image can be viewed/saved etc.

Well Si, after pressing just about every button I could find, I finally got into the Firefox menus - needless to say, being the numpty that I am, I was looking in all the wrong places before! - and found and cleared the cache. Mine seems to be set at a limit of 350MB which was full.

Unfortunately it's made no difference and even though I shut down and restarted the computer, the bloated photos are still there. If I'm the only one seeing them, then the faullt must be somewhere in my links to the forum but if others are seeing them (for example on page 11 of the Updah thread)then I suspect it's a fault going back to the forum crash.

The issue doesn't occur with any other forum or including photos from Flickr into emails for example, so for me it's an exclusive with FR. It doesn't bother me and perhaps we've spent too much time on it but I will ask my tame experts to think about it when my laptop goes in for a service.

Thanks for the help, sorry I've been such a clutz and I hope it's not caused you too much grief.
