Hi Alwin.

I will try and answer your question the best I can at present.
I personally have only been looking at this situation since around 31st August.
This is 2 weeks after the server-crashed.
During these 2 weeks & previously, a lot has happened, that needs investigating.

It also seems like a fair amount happened in the week before the server-crashed as well.
However, having an ongoing technical-conversation with the entire Membership about this, is clearly not possible.
Time spent chewing the fat, over water under the bridge, is time wasted as far as getting answers is concerned.
But specific matters-arising for Members have been answered here as clearly as can be.

2 issues principally.
The missing 'G'allery button & how to currently upload attachments as normal.
& how to deal with an individual Thread that can't have new posts added; 9 have been found.
I've had 4 Threads affected by this situation, and want to know what caused it as much as anyone.

Freerails has run flawlessly for 10 years.
Discovering what all of a sudden 'upset the apple cart' & fixing it, will hopefully ensure another 10 years of smooth service.
There is little point in making a 'fast' decision, if it turns out to be the 'wrong' one.
It seems like fast & wrong decisions, may well have caused the problem in the first place.

Of course, everyone has 'opinions', I've met individuals in my life, who are 'experts in everything'.
The REAL expert of course is Jim, who has ensured HIS server, running HIS software has run like a Swiss watch for 10 years.
So, once the Freerails-staff have assessed the situation in full & decide the best solution to the various issues...
...I'm sure that Jim will ensure that his server & software, will continue to give another 10 years stella service.

Jim costs money, by the way.

Others have spent a HUGE amount of their personal time, mopping this up as well.
Here are their salaries.

Herb....... $ 00,000.00c
Woodie... $ 00,000.00c
Si........... $ 00,000.00c
Eddie...... $ 00,000.00c

All the best.

Si.

You never know, I might be able to spend some time modeling again soon.

I understand that Si, but I don't gonna post anything new (with photo's, wich take a lot of time to upload) when I am not sure that it also stay on freerails. So as long it is not defnitive if the backup of a few weeks ago is restored or not I won't post anything time consuming (read: photo's)

I really don't understand! How come I have few (if any) problems uploading photos, adding to my threads, looking at others' threads and photos, and living life as I have before all this stuff??? I have the most valued "G" button, it has never gone away, and the sun still shines bright (and hot) here in Tejas.
Maybe I shouldn't say anything about any of this.
Maybe the flowers will still bloom in spring.
Maybe the moon will wax and wane.
Maybe...Naaaw...

"What...me worry?"

Woodie

Exactly one of the more vexing problems

Why did some lose some functions--and others not?

The easiest thing to do is complain--But that leaves those who have been working hard--Si and Eddie-- feeling like their effort is wasted--they should be appreciated for bringing things back to where they are now. Information on specifics is being amassed to provide Jim (the server man) with sufficient data to work with. ''G is broke'' doesn't hack it.

Please cool down. When all has been tried, we will let you know. Incidentally, the re-do with backup WAS done, that was when we were off line.

Herb

If a reboot is needed and it'll kill a few of my last posts, I'm just fine with that, if it matter either way.

Hi Lee & Robert

I aint talking about what you guys said
It's most understanding of you both not to worry about loosing a few Posts
What I'm saying is
It's basically business as usual

I don't think at the end of the day anyones gonna loose any Posts
The 'G' button 'll get fixed & possibly even improved fingers crossed
In the mean time anyone who wants can upload attachments
And we got a handful of threads that need part-2s started

There's no such thing as a free lunch !

:f:
