'Hi Tony

I wasted TONS of time doing music recording on computers for years !

In the end, I said enough's enough, a bought a bespoke hard-disk recorder.

Press record, it records ! ... Press rewind, it rewinds, etc. etc.

More than could be said for most computer music hardware !

Computer so -called 'up-grades' & new software etc. is a bottomless pit of time consumption.

My new policy to avoid all that, is simply, if it works, STICK WITH IT.

No problem with posting pix. or anything else, on the Power-P.C. chip vintage Mac.

Firefox is the key here, Apples own 'Safari' browser though, is about as random as Microsofts I.E. etc. IMO.

Busy enjoying car scratchbuilds, loco bashes, vehicle kits & some structure work.

So not much sense in chopping up wood for layouts, until I have my cars made.

Got slightly diverted on some Tri-ang vintage HO recently as well.

So, alot to do, and patience as always for us modellers is all important.

Saw a great T.V. prog. the other day.

Chris Tarrent rides the Ghan-Train, from South to North Aus.

One of the best in the series, I thought.

Amazed that the dry & arid outback, sometimes FLOODS and washed out track, back in the day !

Hi again Tony

Thought you might like this.

Here's my 'faux' Tri-ang Super-Chief !

I know the 'nit-pickers' might dispute a few minor details here. :P

But to my 10-year old eyes ... This IS the Super-Chief !

I know you like coaches Tony.

So this time, I actually have a load of the last-series Tri-ang 'Transcontinental' red & stainless stock for it !

A couple of passenger cars, a baggage car, dining car & vista-dome observation car. :)

Hi Si:wave:, we all used to do that I started off copping LP to cassette,, then the CD came along  and I diccovered how to copy LP to CD using the computer, should of kecpted all my LP's as they are making a return and the LP turn table USB plug these days.
Now the big thing is music strimmming at a cost, a lot of new cars don't have CD players
we found that out when we had to hire a car for a week when our car was getting fixed eigth USB or Blue-tooth, our  missed out the next model after ours had blue-tooth.

Have heard the  saying if it works don't touch it, we wanted to service a box air-con a few years back and that is what the Tech said, if we did get it serviced she would of lasted a few more years , last winter the Ac didn't work got a bloke out to look at it and he took the front cover off and she was caked  with dust. Had to undo screws and was worried I couldn't put the cver back on, new one the front pulls off.

No room to fit a split air we had to go for box AC again Ketvinator are the only mob that do box AC's has more grunt to the old Panasonic.
I didn't know Tri-ang did larger scales nice loco, how old is the loco, Super Chief came in so many different logos not just Santa Fe, is that what you call your yard 13th street.

Yeah I love coaches have more passenger trains than freight, workin gon building up my freight collection, after sortin gout my uncles trains I ended up with a lot of bogies decided to start yet again another project scratch building UP's refriderator 64ft reefer cars smooth sides be easy to scratch buld got some measurements from a friend. What I should do is buy one wagon and coply form it may do, after I finish working on my santaFe's SuperChief project.

Be nice to see your coaches behind the Faux SH, love those pics for Si.
Not much happening today, back on the layout tomorrow, will back the car out set up all the decking see how it fits to the new track plan, lots stilla head.

I will  have to start on the last station module bus wiring, will have the bus wiring panel to the main control panel, then I be able to pack the modules away wife is fed up.

Tony from cool down under.

I switched to Google Chrome  after testing it on my sons computer with spell check what a very big dissapointment, spell check worked on win7 got to be win10, up Micosoft they should be told they stuffed up yet again.

One good thing Chrome is a lot faster than Edge, a matter of getting used to it, took some time to change all the setting with the help of my son.

I have a new progrect my Uncle gave me all his trains and he has 4 F7/A Atheran locos a mixture, first on is an Athearn scond two are Tyco and last one Life like the two Tyco wont run with the front and back locos.
Decided I look for F7/B shell on eBay came across a seller that had two of them unpainted, I be painting them to the Santa Fe colour scheme and modelling the Super Chief got the coaches a mixture though, some be in early Amtrak colours, they started painting some of the Santa Fe coaches to Amtrak colour schem, till I get the right coaches.

THe B's will be dummy locos .

Will look good becide the new Amtrak phase four colour schem super liners, have a set of
10 of them.

The locos to the right, the three red ones need a lot of TLC to get them running again rest work, the others need replacement hand rails and new decals on the CSX loco, I may rebuild them into different locos once the super Chief project is done.

Last pic is he best loco by far runs well, not bad for a Hornby tender drive loco, but I don't know it's class non-think on the boxBritish Rail Decal on the tender, any idears

I had a good day workin gon the layout finely reached the car port side wall 6 inches out big milestone.

More to tell and pics in next post.

Hi Tony

The Tri-ang 'F'-Unit isn't large-scale, it's HO ! ...

... alongside 13th Street Yards, Woodland Scenics HO pickup & Prieser hi-viz dude !! :P

Quite a collection of U.S. locos you've got there Tony !   :thumb:

My big gripe about current so-called 'upgraded' music technology ...

... is that most of it, is a HUGE step backwards, in view of what COULD be possible.

Any modern 'USB turntable' is a MASSIVE step backwards in sound quality ...

... even compared to the super-budget, but excellent, Dual-CS505 turntable, of 30 years ago.

Of course it is the 'mechanical acoustics' which count here, NOT the microchips.

Although in my experience the microchips are mostly a MASSIVE step backwards ...

... compared to some from 30 years ago also.

The problem with 'music streaming' is that the sound quality is mostly truly TERRIBLE !

I listened to Eagles LP 'Hotel California' streamed on a Mac, using a very high-quality '80s DAC recently.

What is a SUPERB studio-recording, had ALL THE LIFE sucked out of it, with the streamed product.

I also downloaded a very rare, but recent, favorite artists album from Amazon.com the other day as well.

This artists actual CDs & LPs are ALWAYS of the highest recorded & manufactured sound quality.

The Amazon.com download however, was overloaded & distorted throughout, from beginning to end.

Is this what we call an 'upgrade' & progress ?

L:

Si.

Been collecting a number of 'train sounds' CDs recently, for some 'atmosphere'.

Some interesting & high-quality recordings are available out there, if you nose about a bit.

Hi Si:wave:, its that word again technology, wow spell check is working now, digital cameras depending on the angle of the pic makes the object larger  than what it is.

I forgot to comment to that dodo you saw on the Ghan, Adelaide to Darwin, I have the two Ghan NR class locos  109 and 74 only have a couple of Ghan coaches , I cover up the Indian Pacific logo, would like a second set of the Lima coaches need to win the lotto they cost $70 now.

Don't do any CD or DVD copying  now as you say quality isn't there they should drop the price of the CD and Blu-rays down a lot so people don't have do any pirating  of shows, I ordered a Bee Gees double CD set out of production for years cost me $45 from America.

All up gained 15 locos, and a lot of freight cars and passenger cars, through out quite a fe of the freight cars and kept the bogies to scratch build those refrigerator 64ft reefer cars.
I am on a high reaching the side way of the car port be easier now, I have just about all the decking cut now even the bridge will do that in stages be a big job cutting all the sides.

Cutting and screwing the sides on the the third module in the car port Friday and finishing off the second one ready for painting, back into track laying.

When I bolted the approach module to the last station module one of the tracks aren't lining up will have to fix it a matter of  plugging the screw hole and re-drilling, I saw a great idea  should of saved the pic of a bloke having adjustable module track joins.

Have rebuilt my cross cutting jig and it now is portable ran out of time yesterday to finish it only needing the second ange line running to screw in place then ready to go.
It took a some time to get going in the project screwing the base into the sides, can't wait to test it also invented a bar clamp pic on next post, wonder if I should start a new thread on what tools everyone uses to build their layout and projects???
Will be fixing the bar clamp up so when it tighens up it tightens square, I get most of my idasfrom you tube amazing what is out there.

Don't know if I will get a chance to finishing the jig today  after brekkie going to a hobby expo in the next suburb not too far to travel, after info on to build my RORO truck ferry and getting 72 scale prop blades for a Martin Mars fire tanker will depend on how dear the model kit is if I scratch build one.

Si,

You were talking about how dry arid places can wash out track.

Death Valley averages two inches of rainfall a year...sometimes all at once!
