The much looked forward to UP grey 0-6-0 arrived today - soon to be retired owner of our soon to be retired itty bitty LHS brought it to our monthly model train club open house this morning.
And,
Well,
I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Howdy, I don't see a locomotive...just some nice photos of tender views. Is there more?

With all the flaws in the tender moldings I didn't even take the loco out of the box.
(well, I had to take the plastic insert it was in out of the box to get it out of that plastic insert, but the loco stayed in the insert)

Also brings to mind the several other failings of Bachmann 0-6-0 of recent years, including one where the eccentric crank broke.
And then there's the one where the radius link in the valve gear was factory riveted in backwards.
After this I'm done with Bachmann, done, gone, the door is closed, the wall is up, the goodwill forfeited.

It could be that the owner of the LHS wanted to get rid of a returned loco and it isn't Bachmann's fault. Sometimes it happens.

And I am certain it is not, because I know things I haven't said here. Mike Duncan of River Eagle Hobbies in Arrow Rock Missouri is a personal friend, the ringleader of our model RR club, is retiring, they have sold their house, which the store (about as big as my living and dining room together, was once a little sandwich shop) was attached to, and I spent enough time at their place for the garden railroad and general visiting. I knew exactly what was in the store and know the UP loco in question was new release at Walthers.

As well as these, 9 out of something like 23 HO and/or On30 locos from them have had motor and/or driveline failures in last several years. Some of them were a couple decades old, some a couple months old.
A few years ago for Christmas my parents got me 2 HO GP 40, Chessie, WM, and a WM 44 tonner. The 44 tonner suffered 4 out of 4 split axles, a few years it turned out, after B'mann's 2013 I think it was, replacement offer. The Chessie GP 40 had a DCC board fire.

So, yeah, there's a whole lotta back story here.

Which includes either last year, this year, sending snail mail with print of the above eccentric photo and several others, a letter saying I am not a happy camper, this is not right, - what came back was a phone message that I could send them in for x amount of money each for parts and labor. Not One Word about, " Oh, 7 to 9 nine failures out of 23 is not normal, sorry about that."

In the end I bought the parts and did the work myself for much less than freight and labor. And I did the work well, there is a reason they call me Doctor Scott at club.
