Because of non-railroad abuse of the site, new members MUST use their first names (at least) to join NO EXCEPTIONS!

Herb,

I know someone who wants to join but he kept getting "not accepting new registrations".

I copied and posted your blurb from the main topic (now closed) so hopefully he can follow that and get on board.

Probably another glitch.

Only thing that I can think of is that the username now needs to include your first name (which I'm hoping to eventually change my own username, if given the chance)

Hi Guys

No glitches !

Smooth as silk operation, as usual. ;)

All new Memberships have been created 'manually' for a long, long time now.

Anyone who wants to join Freerails, should READ the 'JOINING FREERAILS' Forum, where it tells you EXACTLY what to do.

We have in fact had quite a few new Members join, in the past few weeks ... WELCOME y' 'll !

James.

The one thing that can't be changed EVER on Freerails, is a users-name.

It is just the way it is.

Anyway, jtrain is a 'cool sounding name' !

Much better than Mr.Pink or sumtink. ;)

Herb never liked new Members applying to be called 'Mr.Dumbo' etc.

So Mr.Dumbo is def. out, as a possible new Freerailer !

:moose:

Si.

JOIN TODAY ! ... Model Railroading NEEDS YOU !

I am Mr. Dumbo when it comes to joining, because that was what?  4-5 years ago?  A lot can change in that time. Too bad about not being able to change the handle, I was hoping to update it to the newer rules on usernames, but if it can't be changed, then it can't be changed.  The sky isn't falling just yet.

Thanks for clearing that up though Si!  Others might see this and then have a better understanding of which directions to read.

As for men and directions, real men might not need directions, but real men also drink beer and play with trains, don't need directions for that, do we? ;)

For computer stuff we need all the help we can get.

" I was hoping to update it to the newer rules on usernames "

The reason a User Name can't be changed once an account is opened

Is simply that it would be very confusing for Members to suddenly change their name

All previous comments to that user would instantly appear not to be addressed to them

Bend the rules !
