Because of my paranoia in making components easily removable for changing and adjusting I'm using single pin receptacles on leads to connect things together. As you can see this is making thing a bit tight!
Notice the blue wire has been crimped and then the crimp wrapped in heat-shrink. I think I will do this to the others to make the wires a bit less unwieldy.
What I need now is a layout where I can try it out. I am considering joining the local club but don't know if I will be able to cope with the pedants...I'm a very relaxed modeller though I even have a problem with the term 'modeller', I'm just in it for the fun. I think more of myself as someone who plays with miniature trains. Anyway...I appear to be hijacking my own thread.
Good luck Fil. When I showed up at "my club" many years ago with my r/c loco, I got stares and comments like "get a rope!". I could envision the angry townfolk carrying pitchforks & torches heading my way. Another fellow commented-"That's unnatural!". Over the years, they have "seen the light"...but be careful!
Oh WOW, this is just what I have been attempting i.e. to RC the Dapol 08. I will study this thread with interest and probably come up with questions at some point. Thank you very much for the thread Fil.
Hi Rich, good to hear someone else is attempting this stuff.
I have since had to re-think some of the install and may find I have to go for a two-cell system due to the inefficiencies of the voltage booster. But hopefully will retain the charging socket which is a feature I'm particularly proud of!
Will update the thread in due course (but I am currently working on installing radio to the new Heljan cl.37 ) so it might be a few weeks before there's more news.
