In use on the CdeA in Peru, used to haul fuel Oil to smelter in Oraya, then loaded with
ingots of Copper for shipment back to the coast. As the Rly operates 21 switchbacks train length is limited to 8 cars, empty cars do not make money
Traveled the line in 2000 (pre retirement gift to myself)
The oil tank is attached to the car, and the ingots are loaded on the ends, for the trip back. A Bachmann flat car with a 2In addition was used, the tank body was made in Europe, maker unknown in HO, had the right shape and size
for an ON2&1/2 Ft gauge car.
Still need to make up a couple of removable piles of ingots for the ends so I will know which way it is traveling
That's pretty interesting info. I assumed that ingots were moved in boxcars or gons. I have seen old pix of that, they loaded the ingots over the trucks to keep fromtipping the cars or some other balance problem. One old narrow gauge line carried 250 lb ingots without guards because they were too heavy for desperadoes to carry off.
