I bet a lot of people find this forum via a Google search, come in and look around.
I have done that for other forums.
I'll go take a look but rarely ever join a forum unless I think I'll post there enough to make it worth my while.
My standards are pretty high and I don't join one unless I'm pretty sure I want to hang around.

Thanks Eddie.

You'd make a great rivet-counter ... You could do a Union Pacific Big-Boy if you can count to 416,727 ;)

It's been noticed that there are a LARGE number of interesting Topics, that are essentially sitting in the 'General Talk - Off Topic' Forum & often get 'buried in history'.

So I've decided to dig up some of these dusty ol' 'General' Topics & 'Move' them to somewhere more suitable.

For example...

...'Does Anyone Remember Cardstock Structures' has turned into quite a long & interesting Thread.

It has been 'Moved' to the 'Kitbuilding' Forum.

This is pretty much only going to affect Threads that got started in the 'General' Forum.

A 'Redirect Message' will be left, if a Thread is moved, so finding a favorite should be no problem.

The 'General' Forum is sometimes where some of the Sites most interesting or unusual Threads get started.

Some get a few Posts, others get a few PAGES and THOUSANDS of views !

I hope this might help current & future Members & Guests find even more COOL stuff to look at on Freerails, more easily.

Topics in all the other Forums won't be 'Moved', just interesting things from 'General' to a Forum that is more suited to the subject.

593,014...but who's posting?

I'm as much at fault as the next guy,
I only look at stuff that draws my interest and rarely comment on it.

So...we need to step it up and get more folks to post :old dude:

At least folks here post about what they're doing,
one of the other forums I visit seem to concentrate on what the other forums are doing or on stuff that's no longer made,
like they're "collectors of the obscure" or post stuff that's so far off the wall you wonder what they've been smoking [whack]

I think more folks would participate in the RC forum if we had a "RC for Dummies" tutorial.
Some of the talk is so convoluted that it's hard to grasp what is being said unless you are an EE.

Howdy Bob, I was the one who made the "honchos" start the r/c forum long ago.
I kept griping and jabbering until the listowner created the forum to get me away other forums!
When I began the subject, I posted what I was familiar with-r/c car equipment in locomotives.
After these many years, that is what I still use (I can't or won't afford the new stuff.)...if it ain't broke, don't f@#k with it!
I appreciate the response it has brought and though I am still the moderator, I feel that I have been "left behind" by the new devotees.
Oh well, that's the fate of us old dinosaurs.
Try reading the original post about r/c http://freerails.com/view_topic.php?id=1221&forum_id=45 which began.."In the beginning,..."
Just let the kids talk about their toys, I am still running my old lokies, just like usual.

Hi Bob

There is no doubt that it is the Members & their Posts, which make Freerails what it is.

The fact that there are over 1/2 a Million page-views a month ...

... is a testament to the 'quality' archive of material, Posted by our Members.

The more of course, the merrier !

There is a slight tendency in most Forums, for Posting to drop off a bit in the spring/summer months.

Gardening (my bugbear !), holidays, family stuff, can mean a bit less modeling.

The upturn in Posting between say September & May is consistently noticed.

Having said that, I personally enjoy Posting whatever the season may be.

Freerails has propelled my modeling forwards, like nothing else.

I like sharing my own crazy constructions & step by steps etc. ...

... which is exactly what I like to see & is often not catered for in magazines etc.

Some Members do drift in and out of Posting, as their 'life situation' changes.

I very much miss Michael (salada), as I'm sure many of you do as well.

His 'life situation' has meant a step back, from his regular & entertaining Posts of the past.

Whilst on some Forums, someone 'blinks' and you get 10 'attaboys'...

... Freerails, thank goodness perhaps, isn't total 'attaboy central' ...

... but the Page-views say it all, in terms of the 'quality' content on Freerails.

So I would agree with Bob.

Don't THINK about Posting a comment, a photo, a model, or an idea ... POST IT !

Some of the unusual stuff that goes up, is often the most commented on ...

... and sometimes the most viewed.

Of course, to the regular photo, model & layout Posters ...

... keep it coming !

If you don't get 10 'attaboys' for blinking, just check the Thread views.

Many people including TONS of non-Members are following your diverse stories each time you Post.

Freerails may get even more views and new guys due to the BS surrounding photobucket.
Since I won't search for other "photo hosts", my days of posting anywhere but here are over!
But then, what do I know...I'm just an old dude who lives in a cave (searching for a new cave).

I was keen to get the stats up quickly this month

Ive been working on my new system for this years trip to Vegas

I am almost certain I cant go wrong this time !

Figured out that February is a bit of an odd month

10% less days than some other months

Page views for the last few years

357,132   February   2015

382,708   February   2016

416,727   February   2017

476,410   February   2018

Less page views than last months 527,397

But if there had been 31 days it would have been 527,454

Thats in fact as it turns out 57 more page views than last month

They havent got a chance against me in Vegas this year

This guy aint coming off the rails there this time youll see

My new system is even better than smart $$$ outside flanges !

I know how everyone is just itching with excitement every month to read my stats. post

Thats why weve had so many messages jamming the Board demanding updates

Oh we havent ?

They are a bit behind anyway

They tell me that August can be a quiet month for model railroading nutz

Holiday time and lots of tedious yard work is thought to be the theory

Well here at Freerails we PROVE theories one way or another

Page views for the last few Augusts

495,708   August   2015

418,974   August   2016

567,491   August   2017

574,688   August   2018

Im not sure that those figure prove or disprove anything at all

I certainly wouldnt put my dough on any crackpot calculations like that in Vegas !

Talking of dough and crackpot calculations

I know you were all wishing me Lady Luck out in Vegas this summer

Ive nearly got my perfect system all worked out at last

This year will be much better for sure

It couldn't be much worse

383,008   September   2015     ( August   495,708 )

485,287   September   2016     ( August   418,974 )

507,330   September   2017     ( August   567,491 )

471,271   September   2018     ( August   574,688 )

Septembers Page views for the last few years

Unusually the first time there has been a dip in the stats. since Ive been Posting them I think

Perhaps September is in fact the busy yard work month after all and not August

Sometimes theres just no sense in the numbers

Thats what I keep telling myself in Vegas anyway

Keep it between the ditches

Im a bit behind with the ever growing monthly stats. figures as usual

So expect Decembers stats. sometime later in March !

But Freerails is still continuing to set new records all the time !

Beating the previously recorded numbers by a considerable amount

A new Freerails record was set yesterday

I'm not surprised we keep breaking records.

With the diversity of scales, countries, types of modeling and all the ancillary subjects thrown into the forum.
There is a wealth of knowledge, experience and very helpful members, willing to share their skills and knowledge.

This is a great forum and it can only grow stronger due to informative and helpful nature of its members and administrators.

What can one say...... Well done....

Thank you very much indeed Peter for your kind words

No one has ever called me informative and helpful before

Although I do my best to try to be

I have a memory like an elephant kinda all wrinkly and grey so I wont forget that

I just added a gold star next to your name on my list of potential trouble makers

Just to make sure I dont forget

I hope that information was helpful and informative

I don't give praise often but I think praise should be given when it's due,
and this forum has great members and a diversity of topics that should satisfy any modeler.

It's nice to see how the forum is growing.

I think it shows there is still a strong interest in model trains world wide,
but I think in Australia it's on the decline.

Once again well done to the administrators and the members.

Decembers stats. from the crumpled printout I found on the office floor

Total number of page views in December for the last few years

370,344    December    2015

481,871    December    2016

684,229    December    2017

794,506    December    2018

I wish my bank account would manage a doubling of figures over 3 years !

Maybe the huge number of hours work put into administrating Freerails each week is worth it ?

A few people seem to think so

" I like that the site always seems to be working like it should.

Keep up the good work and quit being so 'nice'. "

Thank you Steven

You have inspired me to try & dredge up the delayed data for the January stats.

Ill bear in mind that you have given license to Nasty Guy Eddie as well

January 2019 was an absolutely totally fantastic month stats. wise for Freerails

But a very difficult one for other reasons as well

By the end of January 2019 we had the highest number of page views in a month EVER

It was thought that Freerails would reach  1,000,000  MILLION  page views by the end of January

But with this massively increased traffic & usage came the unforeseen problem of bandwidth

The more folks that are clicking & looking the more bandwidth Freerails needs to have

On 3 occasions during January 2019 Freerails tripped the Sites bandwidth overload-switch

This resulted in the Site being off-air for 3 periods of about  12  &  6  &  6  hours each

Users may or may not have noticed these off-air periods depending on when they logged in

But the 3 off-air periods totaled 1 whole day between them whilst the overload was dealt with

Total page views for January over the last few years

355,133    January    2015

417,368    January    2016

443,108    January    2017

527,397    January    2018

934,736    January    2019

As you can see Freerails didnt quite make the cool MILLION mark in January 2019

But the Site was off-air for 24 hours during the course of the month due to the bandwidth issues

Had Freerails been on-air 24/7 as per usual could the Site have made the magic  1,000,000  MILLION ?

Who knows

I discovered the stats I filed for April again at last

Along with the cute chocolate Easter Bunny the ex Mrs. sent me

Or rather what was left of it

The Long Beach heatwave had melted the sweet critter in the filing cabinet

The stats were OK after a bit of restoration

Bunnys in the dog house though
