I recall reading (Popular Mechanics) about a guy who bought a lot of Shermans as scrap around 1950 to 1955. I bet that more than a few ended in the woods.
Jose.

Lee, quite possibly but it's a dry environment and I've tried to make them look cracked, perished and one disconnected rather than vanished.

My mate Robs caterpillar mini-digger has been corroding in his yard for about 30 years or more perhaps.

The hoses were likely at least 10 years old or more prior to that.

They might well be leaky.

But they are all still there, 30 years of rain, snow & the suns U.V. later.

Likewise in my yard behind the garage, there has been an old tyre/wheel in a 50-gal old-drum, for as long as I can recall.

The 50-gal drum is like a sieve, 1/2 of it totally gone as well.

The tyre is a bit cracked, but essentially all still there.

It takes a LONG time for these kinda parts to disappear to nothing.

Steel does it quicker.

Paint even more so.

If you wanna see 100 years of weathering in the making...

...Robs yard & behind my garage are both good places to visit !

( if you like junk that is ! )

There was an article in Timber Times a few years back about WW2 Shermans being used in logging. And photos also. Of course the turret and guns were taken off and all manner of logging machines like yarders and gasoline donkeys were bolted (very strongly!) to the chassis. From what I read, the first couple of old Shermans cost a couple of hundred bucks but when the scrappers found up what was up, the Shermans were available for several thousands! Supply & demand? If I can find that article, I will let everybody know. BTW, at a logging modelers' convention, a 1:48 yarder built on a Tamiya Sherman chassis won the top awards! Photos of that also.

Very nice Craig. The weathering has come out really well and the driver looks right at home. I'm guessing this is a mix of scales - but then I could be very wrong!

Well, I do know that Hitler had a weird kinda half-track motor-cycle type gizmo in WWII.

I nearly bought one !!

Craig, not wishing to be a total dumb ass :f: ...

... Your tractor kinda looks like a Nazi Kettenkrad with a kinda Fordson radiator !!

I'm gonna run & hide now ... I get into enough $4!7 as it is. ;)
