I found these unfortunate freight cars less T/C/detail parts during a cleanup. Lionels and around S scale. So, being the rascal I am, decided to turn them into a house:

Box car will be modelling shop, kitchen, diner (the cage-like addition) and bath. Master bedroom will take the caboose and a reading area will be set in the cupola. Other amenities: deck, BBQ and pool.
Not bad for a total investment of $1 in glue...
Jose.

Hi Jose

Lookin' good ! :bg:

I got some great proto-photos of boxcar/caboose shacks & 'buildings'.

Not hard to find on the net either, as reusing old cars seems quite common.

I like the 'graft' in the 'L' shape !

' 13th Street Yard ' needs a yard-office.

What better than that surplus Tri-ang Railways wood-sided reefer I have. :brill:

Interior lights would look pretty cool !

What kind of landscape for the setting?
I know it has widely differing landscapes but California was what first came to mind.

For a number of years in the New Braunfels, TX area there was a store that used an old boxcar. It had the trucks / wheels on it, they had a set of stairs you used to get into it.

Will be set on manicured grass. Pool will have a stone border. As I will not detail the inside a realtor's sign at the front will be the excuse. BTW the white patch on the boxcar roof covers a hole that I accidentally burned with a hot soldering iron. Workbench too crowded I guess...
Also I will put a solar panel array.
Jose.

Hmm, how to work white patch in to solar array like some kind of associated equipment?

I will make several rectangular solar panels, the white patch is just to replicate the roof panel where I damaged it.
Jose.

I am currently building a house out of two discarded Lionel body carcasses. About two weeks ago:

It looks like this today:

Pool almost finished, solar panel bases temporarily in place, breakfast nook will be on a wood deck, shown as a cardboard template on first pic. The square things will be planters.
On the other side, facing the street, I will put a realtor's sign. Don't feel like detailing the inside, so it will be a good excuse.
Jose.

Hi Jose

I think it's a good move, going for the solar-panels, rather than a windmill.

I liked the Aussie windmill museum very much.

But the Aussie farmer interviewed said ...

... he didn't think windmills were that romantic ...

... if you're out fixing them every day !

He said, once he had converted to solar energy ...

... he had more time for 'romance' at home !

:moose:

Si.

I'd move in there ! ... It looks like a cool pad !!

Cool project, Jose. Very cool indeed.

Gives me inspiration on what to do with all the spare carbodies I've got laying around too. :)
