Hello my name is Alan,
I am building an HO American Layout in my Summer house, which will feature a large switching yard,  Helix, and a few Industries for Switching.
I have all the lower level Baseboards finally build and have now completed the Helix to its height.
I build the helix from 12mm threaded rod, the road bed is 11mm OSB,  the rise is 2.5% and it has a mini Radius of 26inches.
Now that this is complete i can build the remaining three levels of Baseboards.
Any comments or Questions are welcome
I have a Blog i am writing, that charts my Progress of the build, feel free to pop in and say Hi

Cheers

So this is a View on Left hand side of the Helix. The two lines at the bottom are for Rolling stock exiting the Helix into the Yard
The Third Level is the road that loops around the shed to add running length, the Train will come back on the Helix here.
The Fifth level track sits just below the top level of the layout,  this is a scenic level that again adds a running loop around the Track.
I am trying to put together a track plan, using some kind of Software, but i am struggling to find something to use, anyone help me out???

Cheers

And this is the other side.
The very bottom board, will be my Turntable and Roundhouse.
The first track level you can see is coming from the Yard on the left onti the Helix, (the curved track).  The back line is a run around and takes you to the back of the yard.
Next line up is the first run round line, this will be a single track that runs around the room to add running length.
The top level, is the off road that sits below my top level.
I am planning to have a Steelworks build next to a Dock at the top of the Helix, with a center well for an operator.
Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan,  I used to use 3rd Plan-it.  I liked it quite a bit.  For my new RR I am using pencil and paper for the general route and laying out track on site for the localized planning.  I never really follow my local plans anyway.  The route is the most important part, to make sure that I can fit it in to my space.  As Gen. Eisenhower said, no plan survives contact.
Looking forward to see what you create.:2t:

Thank you for the reply and the Info.
I have my layout fully drawn out and designed in AutoCAD.  mainly so i can make sure my curves are correct and not to tight.
I will look at what you have suggested and see what i can come up with.
Thanks again for the info
Alan

Si i hope these can help.
This is the first level up.  the outside ring, is my Up Track, this is really 4 separate Helix's, where as you hit each level you have to come off and head around the shed.
Now the Inside line is one helix and you come all the way down, to the yard at the bottom.
Hopefully the track plans will help.
I have no idea how to add multi pictures so having to add one at a time
