Tom, can the "fix" restore my photos? I need to know before I spend any time messing with a website, etc.

I'm still around folks, still visit once in awhile, just maybe not as often as I used to.
Been having problems with the joints in my hands, which is possible RSI, so restricting my computer use.

Woody - no it doesn't solve the problem, just a temporary fix/bypass,
which knowing what P*ssbucket are like these days, they will probably disable at some point.

It does give you an easy way to see and access what photos are missing where and download them if you don't have copies,
but you'll still have to re-host them elsewhere and edit every forum post to point to the new address.

I've set up photo hosting on the Gnatterbox See

http://www.gn15.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10737#p123790

for details.

The address is

https://gn15.info/photo/

It's free for anyone to use, though I may ask for voluntary donations to help fund it at some point.

Tom

Howdy Woodie :cb:

You won't be able to see your own photos in your Threads ...

... unless you install & use the Google browser.

Users of other browsers, such as Firefox, won't see your photos.

It is very likely that this may not work in the future.

Indeed it looks as though there have already been updates to 'fix' the fix.

Plus of course, I for one seriously hope PhotoBucket go out of business permanently !

Just use the Freerails FREE Members Gallery for Posting photos.

It won't bring back your lost ones ...

... but at least it won't screw you like PhotoBucket !

Si, when I want to post something on the NGRM site (the ONLY site besides this one that I visit), I supply a link to here so if anybody is interested, they can see it here. I'm not into uploading and then click on this, link on that, stand on my head, etc. to show my silly photos. As long as the FR gallery works, I will continue to use it but if it goes away, then.............

Am I missing something but $399 seems a bit OTT.

It is much less to host ones own site, then you can link to it without any hassle.

Why is Photobucket considered the bees knees ?

I think I have managed this with Flickr and other similar free sites.

For twenty years now I have worked on the principal of never taking anything on the internet for granted and everlasting.

Hi David

PhotoBucket about 20 years (ish) ago, when it was started by a couple of guys WAS a good service.

Some years later, they sold it to Fox-Media, or sumtink, for about $300M !

Some years after that, Fox decided they didn't want it after all.

They sold it to a smaller media company in Seatle, who still own it.

The service has declined over time & with each sale of the company.

There are no shareholders either, it is a private company.

10 years ago though, PhotoBucket was probably still an OK service.

In the last 10 years, it has just got slower & slower, has had poor investment & gone down the pan.

This last fiasco, is probably the final nail in their coffin.

But they did do this for a reason & I believe it wasn't ALL about making money.

It seems to me that PhotoBucket WANTED to shed a large number of users.

Or rather they HAD to shed a large number of users, to return 'speed' to their poor hardware.

Probably because they had no money to upgrade the hardware to an acceptable standard.

That's my theory anyway.

At the end of the day, their singular popularity was probably their downfall.

:f:

A short extract from an article By Greg Avery – Reporter, Denver Business Journal.

- - - - - - -

Photobucket has been given the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau’s worst rating and is the subject of a warning from the nonprofit consumer agency based on complaints about the photo-storing service’s controversial switch to making its customers pay to link to their photos in third-party websites.

The Denver-Boulder consumer rating agency said Wednesday it received 15 complaints about the way Denver-based Photobucket started charging for third-party linking.

“Despite repeated contacts from BBB, the business has not responded to any of these complaints,” the Denver/Boulder BBB’s warning said.

Photobucket, which is not an accredited member of BBB, has been given an F rating by the nonprofit.

Photobucket, which pioneered online photo storage, provoked outrage from many users with a June 20 policy change that removed the Photobucket-stored images people linked to so they would appear on blogs, eBay and Amazon stores and other online locations.

The company ended such third-party linking June 20, requiring users pay $399.99 annually for a level of service that allows linking and came with 500 gigabytes of storage.

Before the change, Photobucket had notched 32 previous complaints to the local BBB. But those complaints stretched back over several years and were of a kind that’s not uncommon for businesses, said Krista Ferndelli Denver/Boulder BBB spokeswoman.

The sudden spike to 15 complaints coming in quickly after Photobucket’s switch to charging for linking, and the company’s lack of response to the bureau is what triggered the warning and "F" grade.

“The whole role of our ratings is to foster open and honest interaction between buyers and sellers,” Ferndelli said.
