Any idea what the starting voltage is?

Hi Michael,
I'm working on it. Answer ASAP. The Hornby Smoke Joe runs very well for me at all speed but only for short trains.

It's not exactly a "Smokey Joe" but it's the same chassis, frame and motor. This little teapot runs fine at 3.6 volts as you can see:

Chris,

Thanks for the info.  I'm thinking of picking one up for a conversion to 35n2.  I'll construct a new boiler and cab.  Short trains are fine with me since the 'main line' is on the short side.
