A couple of On30 model boxcars, built for service (one day) on my layout.

The left hand car is based on the Kaslo & Slocan Rly conversions of some of their flat cars to boxcars.
Styrene overlay on a Bachmann boxcar.
The K&S was a Great Northern operated 3Ft line which operated in southern BritishColumbia from 1895 to 1910.

The right hand car is based on Ferrocarrill Hauncayo & Hauncavelica  42Ft (Former? Stg re trucked to 3Ft) shortened to a 32Ft car.
A few bits and pieces to add yet.
Body of wood, frame of styrene (steel framed with truss rods, waiting on a order for queen posts).

The FCH&H was started as a Stg line 1911-1919, converted to 3Ft gauge, in 2008 it was again rebuilt to Stg.
Likely  by now the older equipment has been scrapped.
Glad I took the photos (2000) when I did.

Great looking pair of cars ... Eh ! :bg:

Nice outside braces.

A quirky couple.

Std. - 3ft - & - shortened !

I have a pair of outside braced cars in the shop as well.

You've reminded me ... must glue some more wood on 'em !

Nice work Ken.

More pix. when you can.

Cool cars!
I like the box cars with platforms on the ends..the old 2 footer B&BRR had such cars.
I built one like that long ago. Outside braced cars are always neat, lots of character.

Materials fit their uses well. Side framing adds much visual interest.

A photo f FH&H # 108, taken in 2000 on a train tour of Peru.
Need to dig out a couple of photos of the K&S cars,
if interested an under frame can be sent also.

Seems they built it up over a regular flatcar.
Jose.

And it was built on an old flat car also.

Hi Ken  Eh!

I like your proto-photo Ken. :thumb:

I might just have to give my 2 outside-braced efforts a first-showing, over at M.M.M.

I collected quite a few proto-photos as well, for my 'hybrid'.

Mine had to be a shorty a bit like No.2 INSULATED. :bg:

There is a bit of a difference in the framing for different types.

It looks like the one from darkest Peru used some stake-pocket like things.

I got slightly confused with the ends of mine, due to the boards being INSIDE !

Mmm ...

I do like an outside framed though, kinda interesting lookin'.

" Will likely get my FCHH boxcar finished up next, basically just a stain / paint job.
After that I will get back to  the Tanque Charuto build."

Hi Ken  Eh!

She's lookin' a treat so far.

" Need to dig out a couple of photos of the K&S cars,

Yes please ! :)

Nothing better than getting ones teeth into a good underframe for breakfast ! ;)
