Go straight to the top of the class that man !

There are just no standards these days !! :old dude:

I'm not sure if those 5 Einsteins are coming out properly spaced ?

Maybe I'm just properly spaced.

I can't tell for sure though.

I have a huge rusting pile of old historical computers in the garage.

A collection of 40 or so Operating-Systems, for about 1/2 a dozen different platforms.

I'm gonna run the Einstein spacing equation through all possible combinations.

I'll start a Thread on it in about 20 years, if they haven't nailed my lid on by then.

In the meantime ...

... I think I'll just Post some stuff about my toy trains.

I had a few minutes spare time today, not thinking about computer problems.

So as long as North Korea don't vaporize me in the next few hours ...

... I'll try and Post something.

Hi everybody:I use Ubuntu (Linux) and Opera browser.No problems here.Wife's confuser was offered an "upgrade" to Windoze 10. I declined in the harshest possible way, and put some garlic wreaths around it as an additional precaution. Working fine with Windoze 7 and Opera.Jose.

What browser are you using?  Websites are written using CSS or html code, which is interpreted differently by different web browsers.  For instance, I cannot get any space between paragraphs while posting on this forum using Microsoft Edge.  I just figured it out a few weeks ago, so I downloaded Firefox (used to use Chrome, but it's too annoying for my tastes) and everything that I use works fine.

The problem isn't with the website's programming, per se, but rather how that code is read by web browsers.  That's the only downside to the Internet, there is no standard.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional with Explorer 11. I also have a Windows 10 on a portable running Edge that gives me the same results.
This problem for me started over a year ago.

 I'm sure I'm not the only one using what I mentioned above.

P.S. Now isn't that strange. When I quote using the "Reply" when I post I don't see the quoted post. yet when I use the "Edit Source"
I get the different colored quote box.

You're right Bernd, anyone using those two Microsoft products will have similar issues because they read html and CSS code differently than other browsers. That's the simplest was I can explain it.

Freerails is an older site with a patchwork of old code, redundancies, and upgrades.  Somewhere in that mess of 1's and 0's there's a patch that's not working on Edge or Internet Explorer which is the cause of your problems.

The only thing I can recommend is that you download Firefox or Chrome and see if your posts work on that.  You can easily uninstall both browsers if they don't work for you.
On the other hand, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer should not be uninstalled because Microsoft (in their infinite marketing wisdom) meshed those products in with the operating system.  If you delete either program your computer won't work right.  It's a great browser to use as a backup though, so it's not a terribly big deal.

I hope that this was of some use to you, computers are frustrating.

First I've heard about it

If you really want a patchwork of old code and redundancies

Look no further than Windows

They probably have the world record

Some of it aint working either

They charge for it as well

:f:

Eddie

Firefox is the web browser of choice

Without all the corporate BS

Its free as well

I tried Chrome. Same results.
That's OK. I'll limp along for now.

No disrespect to the site is intended Eddie, that's just the way websites are.  I don't think about it too much, the forum works on my computer (provided I'm not on Edge or IE) and that's more than I could ask for.

Okay, so I've looked at the code and have found.....

.....Nothing.  No errors whatsoever.  It seems that any errors that would occur have either been fixed, or are being suppressed with this handy little function found at the top of the code:

function suppress_errors()
{
return true;
}

This is literally the first function in the source code and it is meant to do exactly what it says, suppress any errors.  Additionally, I ran the code through a debugger and I searched for "error" which would display if a function wasn't working properly.  Again, I found nothing.  The code for this forum may not be perfect, but it works.

If you don't believe me, have a look.  Here's the html code for the reply page:

[url=view-source:view-source:http://freerails.com/reply.php?topic_id=7945]http://freerails.com/reply.php?topic_id=7945]view-source:http://freerails.com/reply.php?topic_id=7945[/url]

I don't know why your computer or browser isn't functioning properly Bernd, but I can assure you it isn't the code.

James,

Thanks for spending the time to look. This is more baffling than annoying. I run an ad blocker and use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I'm trying to remember if I added or had any major chances on my end.

Wait, ad blocker and anti-virus?  Yes, double check those items as they can be very intrusive to computer operations.

Also, see if you can figure out when the last time you've updated your browsers.  Every update adds new code for patches, fixes, and new features so it's quite possible that your particular version of Internet Explorer and Edge are causing your problems.  A simple update might fix the issues.

We will sort through this, but it could take a while to narrow down just what it is that's causing Freerails to not work properly on your computer.
