The book Practical Garden Railways by the late Peter Jones has been a very inspirational and useful book to me. His way of writing and showing examples of techniques I have found to be helpful as I build my own outdoor railway in O scale.  Most of the book is geared towards the UK scene especially in 16mm to the foot modeling. But all gauges and scales are covered to one extent or another. Peter used to write the back page editorial in Garden Railways magazine.  His way of modeling and layout design was more like sculpture.  If you are building an outdoor layout or are just interested I would highly recommend this book.  ISBN 1 86126 833 5  Published in 2006 by Crowood Press.

Oh yes, 'Scribblings on a Workshop Wall', well remembered. Peter's layout was a concrete example of sturdy outdoor layout construction.
