Yes Charles, the Spring Creek club is still around. I don't know anybody in it but they display a layout every year at the Plano show in Jan. My attendance is short at those shows, they are 8 bucks to get in and the same stuff is there year after year after... The On30 Outlaws' layout is the only one that changes but then that's their thing. I believe some of the clubs have disbanded due to losing layout housing and general lack of interest. The Outlaws seem to be the only group that welcomes teens and families, the others have "restrictions" and I hate restrictions!
Have fun & run a train...

I'm part of a club. Just joined this year though I had been going off and on for a bit. I joined this one mainly for the operations. We have a large N scale layout and host once a month op sessions with a dispatcher and warrant control. We also have a very nice sectional layout with custom aluminum bench work that models Jacksonville, FL to Folkston, GA (we even took home some awards from the last NMRA convention for this layout). Some of the members have home layouts that we operate on from time to time also. There are some politics involved but I stay away from that. More often than not its just a decent sized group (all ages also) that gets along real well. One of the things I like is that while we have a goal/theme for each of our layouts there is never any requirements to what you run. Its nothing to have modern Amtrak pass a 40's era steam or diesel engine while a set of British equipment snakes by also.

Here is our sectional layout, with the GA half looking realistically snowy right now.

There is a new local club that seems to operate on members paying a fee based on the size of the layout. So an individual can have there own 8'x4 and a group as much as they like.

In the UK with our relatively smaller houses this seems a sensible solution. They had an open day this year and most of the room seems to be used up. It is an old mill on the top floor, often difficult to let to industrial users so clubs can get a good deal.

I think they split from an existing club in the town which also operates on the top floor of an old mill.
