Next spring the UK will begin the process of introducing licencing and tests for operators of drones, plus development of 'no fly zones' policed electronically with systems that block flying in that area.

What has this to do with model railways?

The drones contain electronics which are essentially similar to those we use in our trains. It won't take long for a proposal to cover the electronics bought separately to the quadcopter etc.
Imaging if you live in a 'no-fly' zone and find your trains won't run because the signals are blocked? I suppose that would also mean blocking all the 2.4Ghz band?

Don't stir that glass of water.  No authority in the Western Hemisphere dares to employ blocking mechanisms that would make e.g. in-house WiFi impossible - no computer comms, etc. would make the whole business sector plus all possible voters mount the barricades!

Maybe a GPS system?

Of course you could have a drone without a GPS

Or maybe an array of high powered lasers to melt the drone out of the sky !!!!
